One nation of the people, for the people, by the people?

June 20th, 2007

A loss of individual rights can occur whenever the common people do not stand up to the tyranny of the powerful few who plan to profit from their demise. Such is the case today—as major corporations, other nations, and special interest groups attempt to change the laws of our country through the leverage of their power and money. Often, this comes at the expense of the people who are supposed to be protected by their government. For example, legislation that is passed based on the influence of the insurance lobby can produce results that restrict the benefits that would otherwise be due to hard-working Americans. This being the case, it would seem to me that we have lost our representative form of government. The fact that these injustices can occur must mean that there is corruption in our government. This, in turn, means that we are no longer a nation of the people, by the people, and for the people. If laws are passed based on the desires of the rich and powerful, then we are a nation of major corporations and foreign interests made up of special interest groups who represent the rich and powerful. When these things happen, there should be a unified Christian force to confront our government in a righteous and balanced way. We must restore the honesty and integrity that we once had by establishing a true system of checks and balances like those that our forefathers had in mind when they drafted our constitution. We must get big money out of politics and restore our government to the people. Think about this. If for some reason both of our political parties were being influenced or paid by the same group of powerful people and corporations, then we would have lost the power of our vote and, as a result, the control of our government. What should be do? I say to you, “possess the vision”.
